  Hi everyone! This semester I have had several courses, but the one I found most interesting is Environmental Geography. This branch of geography is the integration of all the components of space, being deeper than the concept of environment. That is to say, it is not enough with the detailed study of the elements that make up the geographic space, it is also necessary to understand the interrelationships that arise between them. A very interesting topic in this subject is the hydro-social cycle of water, since the traditional water cycle (evaporation, condensation, precipitation and filtration) is not enough to explain the developm ent and behavior of water resources today, and it is necessary to include in the study the role of human beings as the main actor in the availability, quantity and quality of water in the world. Blog 7: Who is a person/expert on your field that you admire?

  Hi everyone!!! A very outstanding figure in Geography is Milton Santos, and he stands out not only in Latin America but also in the whole world, so today I will tell you a little about this great figure. Milton Santos was a geographer and lawyer by profession. He was born on May 3, 1926 in Brotas de Macaúbas, state of Bahia in Brazil.  He studied Law at the University of Bahia and Geography at the University of Strasbourg, in France. In both institutions he held prominent positions.  He died on June 24, 2001, in Sao Paulo. His reflections on the geographical discipline and on the social problems of the second half of the 20th century stand out for their originality, rigor and liveliness. Milton Santos wrote more than forty books, several of them with theoretical contributions in the field of Human Geography and Urbanism of great relevance. Blog 6: How can geography make the world a better place?

  Hello everyone, I hope you have a great day!!!! In what ways can geography help a better place? I want to start by saying that geography is the social science that talks about territories, places and people's daily lives. So it is a profession that works for people. Geography works in the territories creating safe and equality spaces, or at least that will be the premise under which I as a professional want to guide my work. We know that the Latin American Region is very unequal within cities as well as rural areas, and the most vulnerable are exposed to greater natural and socioeconomic risks, as we have seen with the COVID-19 pandemic. Advancing in risk assessment is fundamental for the management of natural, social and biological hazards. This management must be done from the territories, in a decentralized way. That is why I want to contribute by working in region, from a small town, where many sometimes do not reach.

Blog 5: My Favorite Photography

  Hello everyone!   Today I'm going to tell you about a favorite photograph. I chose it because it has a very special meaning for me. The photo was taken for my birthday on December 15, 2019 by my little sister, and it features me standing next to my aunt, showing her a gift book I received that day. My aunt always lived next door to our house and became part of our family, she was a mother to me. She got Alzheimer's disease in 2017 and since that year I dedicated myself to take care of her together with my sisters. The day after this photo, she woke up sick and we had to go urgently to the hospital, where she was hospitalized. She was hospitalized for two months in the ICU of San Fernando, where I visited her daily, until the day she passed away, February 14, 2020. I like to think that she wanted to stay to be with me on my birthday and this photo is the memory of her gift.

Blog 4: My Favorite Food

¡¡¡¡Hello everyone !!!!   Today I'm going to tell you about my favorite food, but one that I don't eat very often because it requires time and help to prepare it: stuffed potatoes. Talking about this food immediately reminds me of my aunt Gilda, because whenever she came home to visit, she used to prepare them and watching her I learned the recipe. Stuffed potatoes are a pastry made of potatoes that are stuffed with pine. To prepare them you have to make a classic pino (meat, onion, garlic and seasoning) the night before. The day of the preparation you have to cook peeled potatoes until they are very soft and then grind them to mix with egg, flour and butter until you have a soft dough that does not stick. In the palm of our hand we place a portion of dough and stretch it, on top of it we put one to two spoonfuls of pine and close it with the same dough, giving it with our hand a potato shape. Blog 3: My favorite piece of technology

  Hi everyone!   Today I'm going to tell you about my favorite piece of technology, although the reality I'm not a fan of it. To be honest I use my cell phone very little and my notebook only for work. But recently, my sister got me a planetary mixer as a gift, which I loved, because it whips, mixes and kneads everything. I mainly use it to make pastry preparations, since I have a small business. I also make pizza dough and foccacia for special occasions. The great thing about this blender is that it has a pedestal, so you can be blending while adding ingredients or doing something else, it's fantastic!!! So it has made my work much easier and I get much less tired. For those who like to cook and want to see their work in the kitchen lightened, this machine is the perfect solution.

Blog 2: Why I study geography?

  Hello everybody! In this new blog I will tell you about my choice of university and the process that led me to choose geography. When I was a child, I was very interested in archaeology, I read many books on the subject and especially Greek, Roman and Egyptian culture. Once my mother didn't want to cook pancakes for me and my siblings, that's when I discovered my taste for cooking (which I still practice). When I grew up I discovered my passion for the plastic arts, loved painting and sculpture to the point of wanting to study art in college. But I felt that this bohemian world was not for me. And I decided to study geography because it is a mix between physical and social sciences. At the university I have felt comfortable and have found great friends. I hope I can be a good geographer, and that my work will help vulnerable people to have a fairer life.
